This Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Pagode was, according to the data card, manufactured in March 1968 and subsequently delivered to the USA. In 2010 the vehicle came to Germany and was acquired in 2012 by its then owner from Bielefeld. At that time the car was in a moderately technical condition, while the paintwork and soft top were in good condition.

Subsequently, a comprehensive restoration, documented down to the smallest detail, was begun. An independent expert accompanied all work and recorded every single step in writing as well as photographically.

The bodywork was completely disassembled, stripped of paint in an acid bath and then professionally repaired. Due to rust damage to the floor assembly and parts of the bodywork, an elaborate reconstruction was carried out on the straightening bench. Original replacement parts were used, expertly and faithfully fitted.

In parallel, all mechanical and technical componentswere overhauled. The engine, gearbox, axles, electrics and other components, as well as the interior, were likewise comprehensively restored. The car was thus disassembled down to the last screw, carefully overhauled and, where necessary, fitted with new parts.Also, the rear axle was adapted to the German specification. The headlights, brake and indicator lighting system, as well as the bodywork, were fully converted from the US to the German specification.

The entire restoration process is described in detail in a 48-page expert report and documented with numerous photos.The work was successfully completed in May 2022. Since then the car has only been driven 2,099 kilometres and today presents itself in a condition almost like a new car.
